Reading stories requires no account and no personal information.

If you apply to become a writer, you sign in with your Google account and we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We also collect the short bio you write and any links to past work you choose to share. Stories you write, and messages you exchange with our editorial team about them, are stored with your account.

If you send us a story tip, we collect the description you write plus the phone number and email address you provide, so our team can follow up with you. Tips are only visible to site administrators.

We count how many times each story is opened so we can rank popular stories. This is a simple counter on the story itself — it is not linked to you personally.

Your browser's local storage is used to remember how many stories you've read (so we know when to show an advertisement) and which ad was shown last. This information stays in your browser and is not sent to us.

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — for example, which pages are popular and roughly where visitors are located. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to do this. This information is aggregated and is not used by us to identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

BigBuzz Media runs on Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage). Your data is stored on Google's servers and protected by access rules so that, for example, only administrators can read story tips and writer applications, and only you and the editorial team can read your private messages. Google acts as our data processor; you can read Google's own privacy commitments at policies.google.com.

The site shows two kinds of advertising: ads created by BigBuzz Media directly (which involve no tracking of you), and ads served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to show you more relevant ads and to measure ad performance; this is controlled by Google, and you can manage ad personalisation in your Google settings at adssettings.google.com.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your contact details with third parties except as needed to run the site (Google Firebase, Google AdSense, Google Analytics) or where the law requires it.

Writer accounts, stories, and messages are kept for as long as your account is active or the content remains published. Story tips are kept until they have been followed up and are no longer needed. Note that, per our contributor terms, published works may remain on the site even after a writer stops contributing.

You can ask us at any time to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it (subject to the contributor terms for published works). Email [email protected] and we will respond as quickly as we can.

BigBuzz Media is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
