Ghana's Black Stars lost 4-2 to The Gambia in Accra on Tuesday, squandering an early two-goal lead in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Gambia's Ebrima Colley completed his second goal of the match in stoppage time, converting a cross from Sainey Sanyang to seal the win.
Where Ghana's Qualifying Campaign Stands The result leaves Ghana bottom of Group C without a single point after two matches, having also lost their opening qualifier 2-0 to Ivory Coast. Gambia, by contrast, moved to the top of the group with six points from two wins.
Queiroz's Record Since Taking Charge The defeat extended a difficult run for head coach Carlos Queiroz, whose record now stands at one win, two draws and four losses in seven matches since his appointment, with five goals scored and ten conceded. His only win and one of his two draws came during Ghana's run at the 2026 World Cup, while the other draw came in a pre-tournament friendly against Wales.
How Fans And The Coach Reacted Queiroz apologized directly to supporters after the match, saying "myself, the staff, all the players, we are deeply sad, deeply sad with the result that happened here today, and we have to say sorry to our fans, to our supporters." Ahead of the game, he had already pushed back against fan criticism over the absences of Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo, telling supporters "it's better to stay home if you're coming to the stadium to complain about players that are not here instead of supporting those that are here." He had also called a penalty decision in the earlier loss to Ivory Coast "a joke."
