The Bank of Ghana will introduce an upgraded series of cedi banknotes, called the Heritage Series, on November 3, 2026, at an event at Bank Square in Accra. The new series covers eight denominations, from GH₵1 up to GH₵200, including a new GH₵2 banknote that brings the denomination back after it had previously existed only as a coin.

What's Different About The New Notes The Heritage Series is themed "The Cedi, Our Future Secured, Designed to Last," and adds enhanced security features and improved durability on top of a redesigned look. Each denomination has been redesigned around Ghanaian iconography and national heroes, with the central bank saying the imagery reflects the country's history and aspirations.
The Old Notes Are Not Being Withdrawn The Bank of Ghana confirmed the new notes will co-circulate with the cedi banknotes already in use rather than replace them, meaning existing notes remain legal tender after November 3. The central bank has also urged Ghanaians to handle the new notes with care given their upgraded materials.
